Bike Carson Photos of the Week

It’s been a while since we’ve posted the photos of the week!

A Great Day for a Ride in Carson City.
A Great Day for a Ride in Carson City by Shane Carlson

First up we have A Great Day for a Ride in Carson City by Shane Carlson, his first submission the the Bike Carson photo pool. Nice! Looks like this photo was taken from the lower trails of the Ash Canyon system.

Surly Long Haul Trucker by Desert T

Next we have a couple photos of Desert T’s Surly Long Haul Trucker.  That’s a nice looking ride.  I’m not certain of the location, but I know it’s not Carson City…

Local Traffic by Desert T

Here’s another one from Desert T, a shot of his local traffic. Another indication that this is nowhere near Carson City!

And another creative design from Antoine Pethers of Auckland, New Zealand. Which reminds me…I need to send you some water bottles!

Here’s a submission from Bob Moore. A bike up at South Lake Tahoe. With this summer heat, this is definitely the place to be right now.

And another neat photo from Desert T, Rain Shadow.

Ryan
Ryan’s last Lunch Ride by Jeff Moser

And finally, here’s a photo of Ryan Madison on his last lunch ride with the lunch crew. He’s saying good-bye to Nevada and taking a job in California. Before he left though, Ryan recently got sixth place overall in his first solo 24hour Adventure Race that took him all over the Carson Range. Congratulations Ryan, and we wish you luck in your future adventures!

Bike Carson Photos of the Week

Welcome to this week’s installment of Bike Carson Photos of the Week. Keep those great photos coming!

Tightrope by Jesse Richardson

Hey, it’s a picture of me! This one was taken by Jesse Richardson on our spring exploration ride up above Lakeview and Washoe Valley. Seems like only yesterday we rode that. What a view that was!

Self Portrait by Brian Gurd

Next up is our first non-local submission. This self portrait was taken by Brian Gurd from the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. Notice that classy Carson City Bike Habitat bottle in the cage! Brian joined us back in June for some riding up in Tahoe, and I got to visit his stomping grounds a week later! I didn’t have time to check out Brian’s trails, but he did hook me up with some great local beer.  Check out the Michigan cycling world over on Brian’s blog.

“This is a bit close…” by Jeff Resler

And finally, we have another photo submitted by Jeff Resler. This is a photograph of a particularly tight section of the Flume Trail. All that beautiful scenery around, but there’s no looking at it here!

Bike Carson Photos of the Week

The Bike Carson Flickr Pool is growing, and we’re starting to amass a great collection of photography. So much so, that I don’t think selecting one photo per week for the blog is enough. You will also notice that I’ve added a Flickr Widget to the left sidebar that selects 5 pictures at random from the pool. Keep those pictures coming!

This week we have three photos taken by Carson City riders:

The Ponds by Dan Turner

The first picture was taken by Dan Turner at “The Ponds”. I have to laugh when I say the name of this place, because I was riding BMX bikes here before I could drive. The Ponds is at the bottom of the hill on Long Street, and has stayed mostly unchanged for well over 20 years. The jumps are much bigger now of course, but it’s amazing that this place has survived development…unlike most of our other childhood riding spots.

Death Ride 2007 by Brent Ruybalid

Next up is what appears to be a pre-Death Ride photo taken by Brent Ruybalid. I’m guessing pre-Death Ride, since the bikes look freshly washed, with no visible signs of sweat or blood stains anywhere on the bikes.

McClellan Peak by Scott Meikrantz

And finally, we have a fantastic shot taken from the north side of MCClellan Peak by Scott Meikrantz. I usually avoid this area because of the unrelenting climbs, but this photo looking back at Washoe Valley looks like it may be worth the pain and suffering!

These pictures were selected from the Bike Carson Flickr Pool. Instructions for adding your photos to the pool can be found HERE.

Rider Photos

Here are a few photos from Tuesday’s Creek Trail lunch ride. It sure is good to get back down into the bottom of the canyon. The tight twisty turns of the Creek Trail really compliment the open fast singletrack on the hillside above. It’s just a matter of time until the plants and trees along the creek start showing their leaves, and all the wonderful smells of springtime return.

Friday

The night ride was a blast, and was mostly successful. We still need to find out what happened to Roger, and we’re currently corroborating our story about a little “accident” we had at the end of the ride. Stay tuned for the full report…

Until then, let’s see what happens when you mix Bikes and Guitar Hero!

Also, here’s what I would do if I had a lot more courage and possibly a jet pack…

Finally, I’d like to share a couple photos of the wildlife we encountered on the trail this week. This flock of Biker Chicks seemed unafraid, but cautious of our presence. Unfortunately they flew off when Scott R got closer, trying to offer them Clif Bars.

Rider Photos

For many stay at home parents, the start of school means new found freedom. After a long summer without much riding, Kristy is back on the bike. After finishing off a long singletrack descent, she said, “Oh yeah…now I remember why I like mountain biking so much!”. I don’t think it was immediately apparent after the first long, hot, steep hill climb!
