Bike to Work Week Party!

The weather forecast isn’t looking spectacular for our end of the week party, but I’m guessing you’ll be there anyway. Why? Because we’re going to have a lot of fun, and we’re giving away TWO bikes, gift certificates for Carson City’s best restaurants, and other great prizes!

  • WHAT:  Bike to Work Week Party – Come celebrate your hard work this week!
  • WHERE: The Firkin and Fox Pub. 310 South Carson Street (corner of 3rd and Main)

Here’s a look at the prizes we’ll be raffling.  The proceeds from the raffle will go to benefit Muscle Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City (musclepowered.org)

  • 2 Beach Cruisers from Phat Cycles.  Once again we have a woman’s bike and a guy’s bike to give away.  Special thanks to Dan Turner at the Bicycle Authority for helping us get these two awesome bikes!

We’ll also be announcing the winners of our 2010 Bike to Work Week Corporate Challenge!  Challengers, get your results in early!

Memberships and donations provide the primary source of funding for Muscle Powered projects like Bike Month and Bike to Work Week. We’ve accomplished so much! Just today, the Carson City Board of Supervisors voted to sign the action plan to become a Bicycle Friendly Community . The city also strongly supports the further development of mountain biking and hiking trails in and around around Carson City. Show your support by becoming a Muscle Powered member! Bike Carson End of the Year Celebration

Come join us for an End of the Year Celebration! Bike Carson and Muscle Powered will be gathering at Doppelgangers on Wednesday, December 16th, to celebrate a very successful year!

The Muscle Powered Board of Directors will meet from 6:30 to 7:30, reviewing our many accomplishments for the year. We’ll also talk a bit about the coming year and our board, in preparation for the January annual meeting. The board meeting is open to any member (or prospective members) of Muscle Powered, not just board members, so if you’ve been wanting to find out more about what we do and who does it, come find out. There’s plenty of room at Doppelgangers, so show up when you please (you don’t have to wait until 7:30 if you’re not interested in the meeting).

Following, there will be a Bike Carson & Muscle Powered end-of-year celebration with pizza and beer. Hang out with your friends and make new ones! I’m sure there will be stories of road biking and mountain biking and walking and hiking, and much gloating and dreaming over the coolest bikes.

Doppelgangers is at 302 N Carson St, in downtown. We aren’t going to make formal reservations for the pizza time, but if you let us know you are coming, we can clue in the staff and help them serve us better.

Bike to Work Week Party at the Firkin and Fox

As we near the end of Bike to Work Week, I’m amazed at the turnout and the enthusiasm everyone has! As of Wednesday’s night’s reporting, there have been over 600 trips made by bicycle, and over 2,000 miles ridden! And there are still two days to go. This was not something I expected to happen, and I’m blown away. You all deserve a party!

It just so happens that we have a party lined up for all you bicycle commuters down at the Firkin and Fox on Friday night, May 15th.   Head on down after work, and we’ll get the party started when you arrive (5 PM ish!)  There will be plenty of refreshments, activities, and entertainment. Featured beers of the night will be Fat Tire Ale and Mighty Arrow Pale Ale from New Belgium Brewing. In addition to the beer, New Belgium’s Team Wonderbike will be on hand to get you to pledge to CONTINUE to keep riding your bike more. Partial sales from Mighty Arrow Pale Ale will go to support Muscle Powered, and you will get a raffle ticket for every Mighty Arrow you purchase! New Belgium will also have a few goodies to give out.

On your mark, get set, SLLLLOOOOOWWWW! Count on participating in a slow drag or two. Line up the bikes, and head for the finish line. Last one across the line WINS! No track stands, and no putting a foot down.

And finally, if you’ve enjoyed May’s Bike Month events, please consider joining Muscle Powered. Established in 1997, Muscle Powered is a community group dedicated to making Nevada’s capital city a better community for bicycling and walking through advocacy, education, and promotion of bike-and-pedestrian-friendly roadways, and bike-and-pedestrian-friendly development and redevelopment. Muscle Powered gets most of its work done by volunteering, but unfortunately, there are administration costs for us to operate effectively. These costs are covered by your memberships fees and donations. In addition to showing support for our goals, membership automatically covers you under our insurance policy, allowing you to participate in Muscle Powered sponsored activities including bike rides and walks.
