Adventures on New Belgium Bike

Today I rode the New Belgium bike to work.

I pedaled by the woman on the porch laughing
and talking to the young mother pushing
the baby stroller down
the sidewalk.

Past the aggravated lady on the cruiser that
crashed into the chain link fence who was looking
down at her smashed wicker basket as it lay
sadly on the sidewalk in defeat.

New Belgium Bike

Just beating the blind old man in
the muscle car past the driveway
before he could give me the
left hook for the 3rd time.

Alongside the big trucks pouring
the new concrete sidewalk that
borders the new asphalt in
the library parking lot.

Past the stooped over man taking
his oxygen tank out for a walk in
the morning shade of
the big trees.

Down the stairs to
the basement where
the adventure ends and
the uneventful routine begins.

By now you’ve probably seen the New Belgium Brewing advertising banner at the top of BikeCarson.com. It’s my pleasure to welcome New Belgium Brewing as Bike Carson’s first sponsor!

So why does Bike Carson need sponsorship? As a reader, you may not know all the stuff that happens behind the scenes to keep a website running. A blog post may only take a few minutes to read, but there is a lot of time spent bringing the content to the reader. Thankfully, most of it is enjoyable; the riding, photography, and writing. There is also a lot of time spent on site administration, research, and promotion; the overhead in addition to the content. And finally there are the fees required to bring the whole package together; site hosting, image hosting, cameras, and other gear.

Rather than fill the site with random ads for products I’ve never heard of or haven’t used, I’ve chosen to partner with companies that make great products and have good business practices. New Belgium definitely falls under this category. In addition to making a wide variety of great tasting beers, New Belgium sponsored Carson City’s 2009 Bike to Work Week Party, and helped Muscle Powered raise money for local bicycle advocacy. New Belgium also puts on fun bicycle events such as the Tour de Fat. Additionally, New Belgium has a great record of sustainable business practices.

New Belgium Brewing spoofs On a Boat with On a Bike

Bike Carson rider Jesse recently tipped me off to a video entitled “I’m on a Boat”, a spoof on the rap video genre (I’ll let you go find the video yourself, since it’s full of R rated language…). New Belgium to Sponsor Bike to Work Day

Details are still in the works, but New Belgium has agreed to sponsor our Bike to Work Day party at the Firkin and Fox on May 15th! The plan is to have a New Belgium booth setup, hopefully the Team Wonderbike campaign. People will be able to come by to pledge to ride more, and drive less.

Also, be ready for some Tour de Fat inspired activities. The plan is to have 3rd Street blocked off this year, and provide plenty of entertainment. Again, we’re still in the planning stages, but things are looking good so far!
