Mexican Ditch Trail Bridge Ribbon Cutting

The official Ribbon Cutting for the Mexican Ditch Trail Bridges is this Saturday, June 13th. Mayor Bob Crowell will be there to cut the ribbon, and celebrate the connection of two trail networks, the Mexican Ditch Trail and the Silver Saddle Ranch.

Muscle Powered is asking that you attend the ceremony to show your support for trails in Carson City. Many of us will be riding our bikes to the ceremony. If you’d like to ride with us, let me know!

The ceremony is at the southernmost bridge at 9:00 AM. You can either drive or ride to Buzzy’s Ranch Road. From the road, there is access the Mexican Ditch Trail between addresses 1561 and 1631. Ride or walk south along the Mexican Ditch Trail about 800 feet, beyond the horse corrals to the new bridge.

In addition to the ceremony, Fleet Feet Sports will be hosting a 5k and 1-mile walk/kid’s run. More information can be found on the Fleet Feet Sports website.

Bike Month Has Officially Begun

Bike Month has officially begun! We kicked off bike month with a bicycle commute with Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell. We all met over at Sunset Park, where Jeff Potter picked up the mayor on his tandem.

The weather started off questionable, and was even raining slightly when we left the house. By the time we got to the park though, the weather cleared, and we were treated to a beautiful overcast spring morning. Fragrant air, green grass, and flowers blooming everywhere. You can definitely appreciate these things more when out on the bike.

We rode down the historical streets of Robinson, Mountain, King, Thompson, and 4th. We stopped for a bit at the Mayor’s office, and then proceeded to Comma Coffee.

The Nevada Appeal and News Carson City were on hand to report on our event and talk about Bike Month. The mayor remarked that riding the bike to work was an invigorating way to start off the day. I couldn’t agree more!

The next Bike Month event is the Bicycle Commuter Class at Comma Coffee, Monday, May 4th, at 6:30 PM. Hope to see you there!

Ride With Mayor Bob

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell has graciously offered to help Muscle Powered promote National Bike Month in the Capital City by providing us with a photo opportunity to be publicized in the Nevada Appeal, and on News Carson City.

The Mayor has agreed to hop on the back of my tandem (What?) and commute to his office, and then on to Comma Coffee. The pressure will be on for me to stay upright.

If you would like to join us, please meet us Friday, May 1st, at 8:20am, next to the Muscle Powered bike rack at Sunset Park (just south of the corner of W. Washington St. & Sunset Way).
