I guess I should qualify my statements here. If I was only using a bike for commuting, I would definitely go with a full commuter rig, complete with panniers. Since I use my bike, actually one of 4 bikes, for recreational riding at lunch, I don’t really have the option. A commuter bag makes sense for my setup.

Pffft. For those who commute further than 3.2 kilometers, panniers are the way to go. Ortlieb Körbe sind elegant und wasserdicht. Tons of room and no extra back-sweat. I’ve got three Timbuk2 bags and use none of them anymore.
